Abstract

The article provides information on the final rule and the implementation of the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act (PSQIA) in the U.S. PSQIA was developed to address the evidentiary protection issues in the peer review, as well as the lack of patient safety event information reporting. The legislation is also designed to analyze the national and regional information about patient safety events. The Congress believes that the patient safety event data analysis will allow health care providers and organizations to determine trends and use it in addressing the risks it will bring to the safety of the patients.
