Abstract

Nearly two out of every five Fortune 500 companies outsource their software requirements to India, says a report published on Monday. The country's rising status as an offshore development centre boosted its software export earnings to Rs171.5bn (\$4bn) in the financial year to March 2000, up 57 per cent on the previous year, says the National Association of Software and Service Companies in its annual study of the Indian information technology industry. Software exports are forecast to rise to \$6.3bn next year.
