This paper describes the relation between interelectrode
resistance and inception voltages of scintillation
discharges on wet and polluted surfaces of
organic insulating materials. Three different sorts
of plate specimens were used for the test. The inception
voltages were measured under several conditions
such as specimen sizes, concentrations of electrolytic
solution and applied voltp.ges. l
Scintillation inception voltages are mainly determined
by the resistance over electrodes. The inception
voltages rise with increase in width of the
specimen, are low when the width of the two ends of
the specimens is different. They are lower for direct
voltage than for alternating voltage. These phenomena
are discussed from the view~oint of temperature rise
brought about by the current in the pollution layer
and thennal properties of the insulating materials.
